Executive teams in all organisations are required to be role models for effective collaboration. Dysfunctional leadership groups cannot make quality decisions together and cannot build credibility with their stakeholders. But although they are described as ‘teams’, normal team development processes cannot address the unique attributes of these groups. Members of the most senior teams spend less time together, are focused mostly on their own functional accountabilities and usually enjoy being in control of their own agenda.
Our support for executive teams respects this starting point and concentrates on building the relationships, governance and processes that will deliver strong collaboration when required and, at the same time, provide space for each leader to get on with their own job in the knowledge that they are trusted by their colleagues.
