Mediating conflict

When organisations, groups or individuals with different objectives have to work together, the cliché is ‘conflict is inevitable but combat is optional’. If conflict is recognised in advance, those involved will be able to meet these situations constructively and handle them in ways that; promote new understanding, protect relationships, and deliver results.

But, however good the intentions, it doesn’t always happen this way. Poorly handled conflict costs time and money and often leaves behind a legacy of bad feeling that can damage any prospect of collaboration between the parties in the long term.

Our mediation approach is pragmatic and practical getting to the heart of the situation, understanding the conflict from all points of view and working with those involved to create short and long term action plans to move the situation forward. This might include:

  • coaching leaders to help them manage their approach to handling a specific conflict
  • running a structured process of interviews and group meetings to help the parties resolve their conflict and negotiate a way forward
  • help individuals to recognise the impact of their behaviour on others and improve the way they operate in order to pre-empt conflict and build productive relationships.
